Save Burma

As Myanmar's regime cracks down on a growing protest movement, "citizen journalists" are breaking the news to the world. Thanks to independent bloggers and the internet, the Junga may have stopped the foreign correspondents and the local news reports, but the truth shall be revealed.

A publication in New Delhi received an sms at 1:30pm yesterday afternoon which read "There is a tourist shot down" in Yangon, the center of recent protests by Buddhist monks and others against the military junta in Myanmar, formerly Burma. Troops there were clearing the streets, telling protesters they had just minutes to go home -- or be shot. The sms is from an unknown person, believed to be one of the more than 100 students, activists and ordinary citizens who have been feeding foreign publishers with reports, images and video of the violent events unfolding in recent days.

Another blog was updated at 3 p.m. Myanmar time yesterday with a few English lines: "Right now they're using fire engines and hitting people and dragging them onto E2000 trucks and most of them are girls and people are shouting." Below the post is a blurry photo of trucks with the caption, "This is how they come out and try to kill people."

Technology is truly keeping the world abreast of the horrible situation in Yangon. Nations of the world have been sending appeals to the military government of Myanmar to stop all these atrocities. The government of Myanmar went so far as to accuse the foreign reporters of sensationalizing the situation in their conuntry. Well, pictures don't lie, only humans.

Demonstration in Paris
As I was checking for updates, I found a site where it was reported that the Parisians were holding peaceful demonstration outside the Burmese embassy since yesterday.

Demonstration in Kuala Lumpur
Whilst reading the article, I received a mail from my friend Billy, informing me that Andrew Ong also posted his article on another peaceful demonstration at our own back yard. Andrew's article mentioned that about 2,000 people flooded the Burmese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur this morning in protest against the violent military crackdown in Burma.

A sea of people, all clad in red, gathered at Jalan Ampang as early as 9.45am after arriving on chartered buses and marched about half a kilometre to the embassy located in Jalan Ru.

The crowd made up of Burmese - including those from minority ethnic groups - sang their national anthem followed by loud chanting of anti-junta and pro-democracy slogans.

Similar protests were held later at the curbside opposite the Chinese and Russian embassies, both located nearby along Jalan Ampang.

Both countries are known to be close allies of the Burmese miltary government which ended democratic rule of the resource-rich country in 1962 during a military coup.

Traffic along the normally busy Jalan Ampang was brought to a snarl as motorists slowed down to witness the protest.

Protesters dispersed peacefully at about 11.30am on after their representatives handed a protest note to the Russian Embassy representatives. The note demanded that Russian and China end their support for the military junta.

There was no untoward incident reported during the orderly demonstration. It is believed to be one of the biggest demonstrations in Malaysia organised by foreigners.

Dozens of police personnel were seen in crowd and traffic control efforts. Cheras district police chief ACP Rusli Ahmad who led the police operation declined comment when approached.

“This protest is to let the world know that the evil government has cracked down on monks... We want the international community to stop that. We urge the UN to stop that,” said Kyaw (National League for Democracy spokeperson) in a AFP report.

According to AFP, nine more people were killed yesterday including a Japanese journalist and hundreds more arrested in a brutal crackdown on anti-government protests.

The above was extracted from Andrew's post.

Demonstration in London, Germany & around the world

At 10:21AM Friday September 28, 2007, the military junta in Myanmar is desperately trying to stem the flow information about the country's turmoil to the rest of the world. Website mizzima.com says the authorities have blocked popular blogs that have been continuously posting news and photographs of the violence against monks and protesters.Popular domestic Myanmar blogs Kohitke and Niknayman have been blocked from uploading further content today.

The ruling junta has also blocked phones belonging to politicians, reporters for local and foreign media and even student activists. Government owned MPT and Bagan Cyber Tech blocked the websites and blogs to restrict and ban the free flow of information in and out of Burma, said mizzima.com.

The BBC, which has a Burmese language Web site and radio service, is encouraging its audience to send in photos, like the ones it received of a monk's monastery that had been ransacked by authorities. A shaky video, now on YouTube, shows a sea of chanting and clapping monks draped in red robes marching down a street, past Buddhist monuments. One blog features a photo showing two abandoned, bloodstained sandals.

Just read this off Lotusinthemud's blog...

"....For one instance, the monastery at an obscure neighborhood of
Yangon, called Ngwe Kyar Yan (on Wei-za-yan-tar Road, Yangon) had
been raided early this morning.

A troop of lone-tein (riot police comprised of paid thugs) protected
by the military trucks, raided the monastery with 200 studying
monks. They systematically ordered all the monks to line up and
banged and crushed each one's head against the brick wall of the
monastery. One by one, the peaceful, non resisting monks, fell to
the ground, screaming in pain. Then, they tore off the red robes
and threw them all in the military trucks (like rice bags) and took
the bodies away.

The head monk of the monastery, was tied up in the middle of the
monastery, tortured , bludgeoned, and later died the same day,
today. Tens of thousands of people gathered outside the monastery,
warded off by troops with bayoneted rifles, unable to help their
helpless monks being slaughtered inside the monastery. Their every
try to forge ahead was met with the bayonets.

When all is done, only 10 out of 200 remained alive, hiding in the
monastery. Blood stained everywhere on the walls and floors of the
monastery."

Killing kind compassionate beings

What is this world coming to? Imagine.. killing holy Monks, who are revered and respected as they are the most compassionate and kind form of humans in this world of ours. Today's headlines in all over the world would read "Unrest in Myanmar...Monks killed!"

It was reported that Burmese security forces opened fire on protesters and onlookers with live ammunition and tear gas on Wednesday, killing at least three people, including one monk. ….. Eyewitnesses told RFA’s Burmese service that they saw three truckloads of monks and protesters—around 200 people in all—were seen entering the notorious Insein prison in the city. Independent sources reported at least three deaths, including one monk and two lay people.

These are some interesting sites and blogs. Some of the photos are from the following sites:

Burmese blogger Ko Htike has a source who is a part-time worker in the emergency room at Rangoon General Hospital, reported: “At about 2:00 p.m., five patients was coming to our emergency….for gun shots from government militaries,” he wrote, in what appeared to be a hurried posting on his blog Wednesday. “One patient died on the spot on arriving at hospital…[shot on Bladder] 4 r still bad in Diagnosis.”

It was also reported that two monks were beaten to death while another was shot when he tried to wrestle a gun away from a soldier and the weapon discharged, officials said.

They said the monks were killed near Rangoon’s Shwedagon Pagoda, Burma’s holiest site and a key rallying point during the last nine days of protests

This is an SBS news dated 25th Sept 2007

This is one of Jim Carey's spoke from his heart to his fellow Americans to support democracy and Aung Yang Suu Kyi's fight for freedom of the people of Myanmar and basic human rights.

I have been receiving messages from my Guru H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche and my Reiki Master TF Law. These were their messages:-

H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, “Please pray for the safety & security of our Dharma brothers and sisters in Myanmar. Monks & nuns are gathered in the streets there in peaceful protests requesting compassion from the military government. This isn't politics & we must be concerned about the possible outcome as history in Myanmar indicates these protests often end in violent tragedy......."

Reiki Master TF Law, "I thought some of you might be interested to participate in this. For L1 Reikians, you can send metta, good thoughts, hold a puja, etc for this event. For L2 Reikians and above, you might want to send RDH with
the following affirmation, or something to this effect......"

Kechara House 2

My dharma centre is really expanding and over the weekend, after many weeks of renovation of the new place, which is just across the road from the current place, we were finally ready to occupy the new premise. Major shifting of some of the precious items commenced on Saturday morning. There were a lot of us there and everyone was happy and excited over the entire affair.

The floors were swept and mopped, the cabinets were cleaned before some of us went back to KH1 (the newly renovated place is known as KH2 - Kechara House 2) to invite the first few "occupants".

After having housed Lord Manjushri, Guru Rinpoche and Lord Varjrasatva in their respective new abodes, we were given a break to have lunch and to catch up with each other. Lord Setrap prayers and invitation over to KH2 will only commence at 1pm.

At 1pm, we carried out prayers for Lord Setrap at KH before the entourage went over to KH2 making preparations to receive Lord Setrap from KH. Whilst doing that, Lord Dzambala (the smaller statue) arrived in Peter's car. Wow.. everything was so very exciting.

Finally, about 2plus, everything was ready (as we had a little hitch with the pearl curtains deco at Lord Setrap's Chapel). So many helping were hands needed as Lord Setrap's Glass Cabinet for his pearls and other offerings must have weighed a tonne.

As Lord Setrap made his way in, all of us greeted him with chants of Migtsema and his mantra. Everything felt so perfect.

It was about 3pm and the Kechara Committee was going over to KH for their meeting. The rest of the folks were either going to join the committee for the meeting, or just hang around KH2 to relax. I had to go off as there were plently of errands waiting for me to do. I did not stay for the invitation of Lord Dzambala but I managed to borrow some great pics from this wonderful site to show how beautiful our new KH2 is.

National Feng Shui Congress 2007

A plain mysterious envelope arrived the other day addressed to me to my office. I was wondering if it was just another of those flyers from training companies, but was rather unusual as there was no office address or logo on the envelope.

I left it on my intray quite having forgoten about it. When day end came to check what else is left in my intray, I took up the envelope, opened it to find inside the envelope a letter and 4 tickets... tickets to the National Feng Shui Congress. Wow

These tickets were sent by Mr Loke Weng Leong, of Global Destiny Resources Sdn Bhd, a partner of Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics. The letter read...

"We are having The National Feng Shui Congress 2007 on the 29th and 30th September at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, from 9am - 7pm daily. The theme for this year will be Feng Shui for Homebuyers. .........

and...

"As a senior student of the Mastery Academy, I am extending 2 FREE TICKETS to this event for you and your loved ones".

Wow... Free tics.. each valued at about RM120 each...wow.

Anyway, I will definitely be taking 2 of the tickets, one for the 29th and one for the 30th. At the moment, I may have a taker for the third ticket for the 30th, but even then my friend has not confirmed. So, anyone want to take at least one of the tickets off from me? The one on the 29th? First come first serve. Mail me at nypl118@gmail.com. Not at the comments please :).
