Horrible Intense Gastric Pains

Wow.. this morning was really agony for me. When I got up, I already started to feel some rumblings and twinges of pain running through my abdominal area. I knew that something was not right already. Even before I went to brush my teeth, I went to rummaged the medicine cabinet, took out 2 gastric pills and swallowed them with some water.

Went into the kitchen, put in some rice to be steamed in the brand new pressure cooker that I bought and whilst waiting for the rice to cook, took out the nori sheets, the sushi mat, the bonito, sesame seeds stuff that I used in the previous Bento #3 and suddenly, I felt this horrible cramp. Cold sweat broke out....sheeezzzz... went back to lie down on my stomach. Nope the pain was not going away.

The rice was ready as the timer which I set sounded. Dragged myself out of the bed. Went into the kitchen, decided that I still have to finish the bento but was not going to make rolls or fried eggs or anything too complicated as the pain was really killing me.

Took out the packet of chicken floss that I bought, placed it on a plate, poured some teriyaki sauce over it and mixed it up a little.

Put back the bamboo mat and took out the onigiri moulds and the small pieces of nori sheets. Seasoned the rice with some rice vinegar and a little salt. Used the chicken floss as fillings and as I was doing this , I was still breaking out in cold sweat.

Given any other day, I would have called in office and told them that I was going to the doctor and hopefully get a medical leave or worse case, take an emergency leave. But I could not do that as I had another of those meeting/presentation in the afternoon. I really had no appetite for rice or anything for that matter. So, this bento went to Tobiyama and his brother, who were going to a reiki class in the morning. They would probably eat this in the car for breakfast.

One more thing, Tobiyama has recently gone for sessions of alternative healing himself and he is also a level 2 reiki practitioner. I am also a level 2 reiki practitioner but there was a difference when he channeled healing energy to me. I did it to myself this morning but the pain lessened whilst I had my hand on my abdomen. Tobiyama did it for about 10 minutes, and in less than 5 minutes after that, I started puking. Every drop of water that I had taken in since I got up in the morning was ejected out of my body (via the mouth only..luckily). But I felt tremendous relief immediately. The pain was there but much more manageable. Mmmm.. some would say that it was the gastric medicine kicking in.. but me... I give credit to Tobiyama and his healing capabilities.

I think I know what did me in this morning.... it was my fruit tarts... those *@##@#* fruit tarts. Remember I mentioned that I made them for 2 friends birthday.. but I saved 2 for myself.. which I have forgotten to eat until last night. Ate one yesterday. Tasted ok. But this morning, I checked on the last one and there were molds on top of the blueberries... YUCKS!!! I think I must have eaten mold last night.. sheeesh... must check before eating the next time.

So Very Angry

This incident happened last Friday evening and even as I think about it, I still feel a little annoyed. But at that time, I was fuming.

I decided to go over to the pasar malam (night market) in Taman Desa last Friday and it must have been about 6:45pm to 7pm when I arrived. As usual, I was quite careful where I parked as I know that many of these pasar malam sellers are not the most polite of people. I picked a spot which was almost at the end of the stretch, and I noticed that there must be at least 4 car lengths of space between the corner fruit seller (I think that is his fixed spot) and the next seller (who happened to be a key-cutter or something on a motorbike with a side cart). Anyway, I knew that I would only be a short while as I only wanted to get some corn for the sugar gliders and some flowers for the altar. But I had to walk quite a fair distance to these sellers so, I must have been away for about half an hour.

As I was walking back, from afar, I noticed that there were a seller was in the midst of setting up his stall behind my car. There were lots of space between him and the fruit seller, but he chose to set up right behind my car. But that was not made my anger rise. I saw him utter something to the lady beside him (who I suspect must be the wife) and then he started kicking the bumper of my car.

I went up to him and asked him why he did that. He had the cheek to ask me "Which of your eyes did you see me kick your car!" (literally translated from chinese). I told him I just saw him do it. Then he changed the subject and started accusing me of taking up his spot at the pasar malam and he waited a long time for me to come and remove my car. I really didn't want to argue with this kind of man as he uses his gender and his loud voice, in hope of intimidating a woman. So, I looked around the car and found that he left his partly set up stall behind my car on the ground and I told him to remove it so that I can move my car. He just stood there mouthing obscenities and not moving anything. In front of my car was the drain. And the only way I could get out of that spot was to reverse my car (obviously the car cannot move sideways).
After waiting for about 2 minutes and him not doing anything about moving his stuff out of the way, with me seething inside the car, I made a decision. I will just put the car into reverse and roll over whatever that is behind my car to get out.

That was exactly what I did.... crunch.. crunch...crunch... As I put the car back into drive mode, I looked at the back view mirror and I saw him standing there, still arms akimbo but a look of "jaw dropped". He probably didn't expect me to do that. I really was too angry to think of the consequences right then.

When I shared this story with one of my brothers on Saturday during dinner, he laughed. But his wife asked me "You dare return to that pasar malam after this ah?". My answer to that is "And why not? And maybe, I might just do it again.... roll over his stuff, I mean". HAHAHA...

My Fav 10 or 11

I was at Sunway Pyramid on Saturday, just walking around when I suddenly saw this rather peculiar sight. It was quite interesting to watch these blokes stand there unmoving. Cannot help myself but to capture some shots of them.

Was wondering how long they had to hold the pose as I think it might be fun for a minute or so.. but as time goes by, it will be rather tiring and painful on some parts of the body. This guy seemed to have gone all cock-eyed hahaha...

This one will probably have a crick in the neck...

As I walked away, I was wondering, the advert was for 10 fav numbers.. how come they are all blokes? Could not get the girls to pose like this and have their faces and bodies covered with golden colored gunk? And how come they are all cutie chaps? Unlike the competitor's TV advert where their 11 favorite numbers consists of a nerd cousin (the one who cannot catch anything except a cold), another nerd cousin who takes time out to eat (sotong) balls and I think there were a few other funny ones. That would have been a true picture as most of our fav people to call would be that brickhead of a brother, the whacko sister-in-law ...haha.. i am going to be really dead if they read this post :p

A Hero and A Villain in Each of Us?

Mmm.. when I read this " In every Hero, there could be a Villain.....", it made me think of Christian Bale aka Batman in Batman Returns. Unless you have been out of circulation, the newspapers, the radio and the internet have all written about the purported assault by Mr Bale on his mum and his sister, just a day before the premier of his latest movie. Well, sometimes, families do the stupidest things to the people who loves them. Anyway, Christian has requested for privacy on this family issue, so, let us give in to the man to solve his personal problems k?

Actually, my post is intended to remind all Heroes (the series) supporters that our favorite TV series is surely but truly coming back.

The marketing line reads ....

Heroes Returns!
In every Hero, there could be a Villain. Heroes returns this Fall!

It will be premiering on the 22nd of September this year in US and I simply cannot wait for the time when we can get it here (hint hint to a certain person called Deric haha).

Apparently, there is a short trailer here, but I cannot play now.. (working time... shhhh... will play it later at home).

WAH.. I am counting the days until Heroes arrives......

btw Deric... heehee.. for the Food Exchange Programs (where I am concerned), you don't have to bake, boil, saute anything for the entire Heroes 3rd season. Just gimme .... you know lah...okie heehee

Star Wars Series 3 Mimobot Flash Drives

Wow.. this week has been so packed with work that it has just sped by without me doing much cooking or blogging or anything that I really like. The other thing is that my PC is almost bursting at its hard disk with so much work data that I may need to move some of my stuff onto external storage disks. So, today being a Friday and since I am still waiting for the training dates to be set, I do have some time to goof off today :D. Went net surfing and wow.. I saw something which I might buy (if it is not too expensive when it arrives here in Kuala Lumpur, specifically at Low Yat Plaza downtown). Have a look and let me know what you think.

This picture is taken from Gizmodo.com. Don't you think they are cute. They are the latest Star Wars flash drives from Mimobot designs.

Mimobot, fine purveyors of geeky collectible flash drives, have introduced the next batch of Star Wars flash drives. There's an egg-headed C-3PO, Wicket, Imperial Guard, Chewy, R2-D2 and the rest of the crowd. Apparently, they can play Star Wars sounds when you mount and unmount, if you want to go there. [mimobots via Underwire]

I am torn with which one I would want to buy as I like all of these...

The rest are quite nice too but don't think I will choose Han Solo (he looks so sissy) even though he is my fav character after C-3PO and R2-D2. Have a look at the rest them at Mimobot's website. Don't you think they are the cutest?

Joyce, whenever you are going to Low Yat or Digital Mall, do you think you can check if any of the suppliers are likely to get these shipped to them :p.. thanks :)

One Knight to Rule them all

3 movies within the last few days.. sounds like a movie marathon to me... actually, it was 2 ok movies and 1 "fantastic beyond words" movie.

The first of the lot which I watched was Hell Boy II - The Golden Army. The story was simple however some parts were rather ridiculous. The part where fishboy went all "lembek" over the elf girl. Hey.. she does not even look anywhere like a fish and geez... even my Aunt Bebe looks more fishy than her..opps...luckily Aunt Bebe does not read blogs. The most disappointing bit for me was the elves. Hey.. what happened to good looking elves who takes the forms of Legolas or Elrond and beautiful Arwen and Galadriel from Lord of The Rings?? The brother and sister pair Nuada and Nuala looked like vampires with very bad skins. But overall, luckily for the entire movie's visual effects, I give it a 6+/10.

Actually I only watched this next one as I missed the earlier screening of The Dark Night and the next one was at 1:00am (ouch.. not nocturnal lah). Since there was nothing else I really wanted to watch, decided to try "Journey to the Center of the Earth". The storyline was pretty interesting as I have never really read the book before. Don't know why I have always mistaken the story for the Allan Quatemain's King's Solomon's Mine with this story... two totally different story. Well, this was a very short movie but like I said, it was pretty interesting to me. Throughout the entire movie, I kept hoping that Max was still alive and also wondering how they were going to surface back to ground zero. Also realized that Brendan Fraser does look "goofy" most of the time in the movie... just like how one radio DJ's advertised this movie the last couple of weeks ago. I would rate this a 7/10

I am so glad to have left the best movie for last. Went to watch The Dark Knight yesterday and it was really the best movie I have watched for a long time. Normally I am one who refuse (most of the time) to watch movies which have been given rave reviews or have won some kind of award but this was one exception that I am so glad I made. It was really a pleasure to watch all those characters from the comic books coming to life. Villains like the Joker and Two Face looked like they literally stepped out from the comic books. Jack's Joker and Tommy Lee's Two Face really have been a far cry from that of Heath's Joker and Aaron's Two Face and this is not just the looks department but also the acting department. But back then, we didn't know any better..haha. And ...Batman Bruce Wayne..played by the tall, lean and handsome Christian Bale ... I have already forgotten who all the other Batmen of yesteryears... but I think Bruce looked a little bit to thin and gaunt in this sequel. He looks hotter in the 1st movie. But getting back to the movie... the excitement came wave after wave and I was sitting at the edge of my seat wanting it to go on and on... The batsuit, the batmobile, the batpod... WOW!!! It is a beautiful movie, albeit some sad parts but that is the way things has to be ... all superheroes .. are destined to be alone.... (maybe the only exception so far is Spidey).. so that the rest of us females can dream on believing that we are his one true love....buahaha...

This definitely takes my cupcake, a definite 10/10.... so good that I might go watch it again and again............ and again.

A Special Colander

It has been a long time since I found anything interesting in terms of utensils in the kitchen. The last and only one I shared was the apple corer from Ikea.

This kitchen item first caught my eye when I was watching a VCD demo at a supermarket, cannot really remember where but it was likely at Jusco in Mid Valley (my fav shopping place). It resembled a colander or some kind of sieve which you would normally wash your vegetables and fruits in but this one is one to wash rice in. The VCD was about sushi making and the chef as washing the uncooked rice in one of this. I saw that it will be extremely useful to me as I always have this problem when I wash rice. Much of it will end up getting poured out with the water and with the price of rice going sky high these days, every grain saved is a grain eaten.. (sounds like I am really rice counting).

I remember going upstairs to the departmental store section to look for it but could not find it. In fact, could not find it at any of the other supermarkets or departmental stores. Never really gave up looking though. Then out of the blue, 2 evenings ago as I was waiting for a friend a SS2 for dinner, I spotted the 100Yen shop. My initial intention was to go in to look for some cutie bento boxes. And that was when I saw it..... wah... it was like finding a treasure. I immediately took hold of one. And at this 100Yen shop, it was only sold at RM4.70... wonderful.

I know that with this colander thingy (actually I don't even know if there is a correct name for it as everything on the packet is written in Japanese), I will have an easier time washing rice without too much wastage now. See how easy it is.....

A Love Everybody Dreams Of

This is an old story which was circulated a few years ago but I am not sure how come I missed it. I think it is making its round again via the emails as I have just received it from at least 2 people. When I read the story and saw the picture, I was really moved by the love this man has for this woman. He has overcomed obstacles, scorn and nasty comments to be with the woman whom he loves.

The email that is circulating is entitled "Staircase of Love". The story went like this....

An incredible love story has come out of China recently and managed to touch the world. It is a story of a man and an older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace for over half a century.

The 70-year-old Chinese man who hand-carved over 6,000 stairs up a mountain for his 80-year-old wife has passed away in the cave which has been the couple's home for the last 50 years.

Over 50 years ago, Liu Guojiang a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a 29 year-old widowed mother named Xu Chaoqin. In a twist worthy of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, friends and relatives criticized the relationship because of the age difference and the fact that Xu already had children.

At that time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman.. To avoid the market gossip and the scorn of their communities, the couple decided to elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern ChongQing Municipality.

In the beginning, life was harsh as hey had nothing, no electricity or even food. They had to eat grass and roots they found in the mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp that they used to light up their lives. Xu felt that she had tied Liu down and repeatedly asked him, 'Are you regretful? Liu always replied, 'As long as we are industrious, life will improve.'

In the second year of living in the mountain, Liu began and continued for over 50 years, to hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the mountain easily.

Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventurers were exploring the forest and were surprised to find the elderly couple and the over 6,000 hand-carved steps. Liu MingSheng, one of their seven children said, 'My parents loved each other so much, they have lived in seclusion for over 50 years and never been apart a single day. He hand carved more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother's convenience, although she doesn't go down the mountain that much.

The couple had ived in peace for over 50 years until last week. Liu, now 72 years, returned from his daily farm work and collapsed. Xu sat and prayed with her husband as he passed away in her arms. So in love with Xu, was Liu, that no one was able to release the grip he had on his wife's hand even after he had passed away.

'You promised me you'll take care of me, you'll always be with me until the day I died, now you left before me, how am I going to live without you?' Xu spent days softly repeating this sentence and touching her husband's black coffin with tears rolling down her cheeks. In 2006, their story became one of the top 10 love stories from China , collected by the Chinese Women Weekly. The local government has decided to preserve the love ladder and the place they lived as a museum, so this love story can live forever.

MICB Exhibition & Challenge

Whilst I was at Pastry Pro last Monday during my day off, Karen, the very nice sales lady there gave me a brochure which read "Malaysia International Bakery & Confectionery 2008 - Exhibition & Challenge". It was to be held at the exhibition hall at Mid Valley over 3 days. The exhibition was opened to all whilst the challenges were only open to contestants who are mainly chefs and bakers... i.e. professionals, not your home bakers haha.

As I was there on Sunday morning, many of the exhibits were already judged and displayed. I did ask politely if I could take photos and was told that I could take photos of all the judged exhibits only. I must not take those which are in the process of being judged and the kitchen area (as it could be very distracting to the contestants).

Some of the designs that I saw were really .... far out. No wonder the challenges were open only to the professionals. I stood staring at some of the designs and just could not figure out how on earth do they start on such pieces. They were so complicated.

For more nice pictures, please hope over to Min's Baking Project Blog. She was there too :).

The only sad thing is there were so few booths there. In a quick 10 minutes or less, you would have seen all the booths there. I stopped by at Pastry Pro hoping to meet Karen or Niki but I guess it too early for these 2 ladies. Bought some muffin cups and some cake toppers. Most of my time spent there was to stare in total fascination at the creations on display... plus trying to see over the glass kitchens to where the pastry chefs were... i think they were creating chocolaty stuff... yumm.

Reconnective Healing

Have I ever mentioned that I am very interested in all things unconventional, whether it is unconventional music, food, religion, healing. Well, I have been a reiki level 2 student since many years ago and have been using it mainly to heal myself and some of those close to me. In the beginning, I was also a bit skeptical as to how effective this form of healing can be until a very personal experience I had in my office some years back. A colleague was having an awfully painful encounter in the office which later was diagnosed as a spontaneous abortion. Well, that experience really changed my entire perception and understanding on the potential of using reiki as an alternative form of healing.

Yesterday, as a result of much encouragement and sponsorship by a good friend, I made my way to Lighworks at the back of Wisma NPL for my Reconnective Healing. At times, we are not even aware of what sort of healing we need. Most of the time, we are only aware of our physical needs, but there is also our emotional needs, our psychological needs and also our body's hormonal needs. When I went through my reiki level 1 attunement process, which basically enables a recipient to open up and connect to the Universal Reiki Energies on a mental, physical, emotional and psychic level plus it also clears and balances many important energy channels within the body, I never thought that what I needed healing most was my emotional side. After the attunement process, my Reiki Master did ask me to be prepared as sometimes healing takes place after experiencing some unexpected results due to "cleansing" or what others would call de-toxification. Little did I know that my healing started in the middle of the night, in a cyber cafe. Half way chatting to a friend in Canada, suddenly, I felt quite emotional and tears started to roll down my face. Heck, we were chatting about his lakeside holiday the weekend before. I had to quickly bade him goodbye and log off my MSN and practically ran out of the cafe. The bout of tears went on for almost 5 whole minutes. Mmmm... according to my Reiki Master, I must have been carrying these emotional baggages without knowing that I was. Cool...hahaha..

Anyway, after the healing treatment yesterday, the facilitator informed me that healing will take place when when his treatment stopped ... yikes...i hope it is not with another bout of tears to kick off the healing .. haha.. but i doubt it..my emotional baggages have all been cried out the last time...but let me share this with you (hopefully he is not going to kill me when he finds out that I have posted his less than attractive picture here)... a friend who went for his healing session almost a month back was a-ok until 2 days ago. He broke out in rashes.. from the scalp on his head to the soles of his feet... he looked like he was going to transform into the THING.. from the Fantastic Four Team. Asked him if he felt any super powers surging in... for that I got a growl... oh well, it is not everyday one has a superhero for a friend mah!! According to the facilitators at Lightworks, this is likely to by my friend's way of his body getting rid of all the toxins. Each person will experience different results after the treatment.

This reminded me of the healing potentials of lingzhi. Many have spoken of the lingzhi's ability to heal a lot of illness but before healing can take place, one has to experience some form of detoxification. Some people even get fevers, coughs, colds. Well, I will soon know :)

Thank you Nuffnang :)

I just want to say thank you to Nuffnang for the tickets to watch Hancock the movie last nite. Mum says that it is rude not to say thank you to the person who gave you gifts :).

I have never been to the Cathay Cineplex Damansara before... talk about the country bumpkin from the city :). I was actually a bit lost when I got there. Rather undecided whether to park at the Curve or not but saw the carpark signage at Cineleisure as I turned the corner. Managed to find a carpark space, which according to my friend Jean, was quite lucky. It is sometimes quite difficult to find a carpark there.

As I got out of the basement carpark, I was unsure where to go next. So, decided to just take the escalator up to the higher floors. Never been to a cinema lower than the 2nd or 3rd floor of a complex :).

After reaching the 2nd floor, still no sign of the cinemas. Thought I could smell popcorn... perhaps my nose can lead me there. As I was about to turn towards the next set of escalators, I saw this extremely tall "mat salleh" aka kwai low aka Caucasian man. Why, it was none other than Shaolin Tiger, the blogger. Have never met the guy personally but have visited his blog occasionally. So, I tailed him all the way to the cinemas. Ha Ha.. thanks shaolin tiger :).

Picked up the tickets from the counter with Nuffnang banners. I think the cutie manning the booth must be Robb.

Whilst waiting for Jean to turn up, tried to look around to see if I can spot any bloggers that I might know. But couldn't pick them up as I have not attended any of the other Nuffnang's parties. Maybe I would the next time. Thanks again Nuffnang for inviting me to your private screening of Hancock, the Movie.

Rabbits up for bid

Rabbits really needs a lot of space to run around and putting them in a cage inside a condo unit is just not right. Anyway, this is the story of Aki-chan and Haru-chan.

Anyway, they have grown quite a fair bit since the last time I ran a post of them. And I hate to say this, Aki-chan is one hor*y rabbit. Yah yah.. that is where the saying "breed like rabbits" come from. It has been over a month that Aki-chan has been trying to do Haru-chan every single waking minute. Sometimes I really pity Haru-chan having to put up with it. I let them out of the cage hoping that this will distract Aki-chan as there are many more things to see or do. But nope... I see the fella chase Haru-chan around the rooms and in the course of his amorous intent, push down vases and small objects on the floor.

Lately, I have been also in need of a little bit of extra financial assistance. Things are really costing a lot and keeping these two eating and (soon to be) breading machines could be a taxing on my already dwindling financial situation, I have no choice but to put them up for auction.

The reserve price for Aki-chan and Haru-chan is RM50. They will come with their cage, water and food bowl plus their rabbit food, alfalfa and hay. Pickup will be at Amcorp Mall carpark or Ikano's McDonalds. Please send bid or request for more information to my email address nypl118@gmail.com.

Sepi, The MOVIE

I have always got a soft spot for our local Malaysian performing artistes, whether they are actors, singers, dancers or whatever. One of my favorite local male actors is definitely Afdlin Shauki. Apparently he is also a musician too but I think I know him better from his movies and TV shows. Plus his appearances in the Actorlympics stage performances. Never fails to put a smile on my face with his works. Watched his Sumolah in the cinema and later bought the VCD from Speedy to watch again. Thoroughly enjoyed that one :).

His latest movie Sepi's trailer was shown on NTV7 almost 2 weekends ago and I have already decided then that I wanted to watch this movie. Whilst at Min's place last Sunday, they were also playing the trailer on TV9. Finally managed to catch it yesterday nite.

The story talks about the lives of 3 individuals in the city, their views and perspectives on love, life and loneliness. Each life if viewed on its own is nothing spectacular, it is probably not even interesting to say the least. But, having the lives of these 3 individuals meet at a highly explosive moment in time makes it all come together. The way the entire story was weaved together is achieving the tapestry of life which another movie tried to do "Jarum Halus" but which failed totally. Nearly wanted to walk of that one, but as there were only a total of 4 people (me included) watching the show, didn't want to be mean about it, so, forced myself to sit through to the end.

I was still thinking about the show this morning as I was coming to work and I realize that there is a movie with a similar theme about different people whose lives have never crossed, and may never cross again, except for that one moment. That movie if I am not mistake is "Babel" staring Brad Pitt.

I would say I truly enjoyed watching Sepi and if Min is reading this, must watch Min... so many facets to life being depicted in this movie. Will wait for the VCD to come out :)
