Monkey Graveyard - Witch Hunting Now

Is cruelty a base nature of humans? I hope not. There was this article in the Malay Mail (MM) this morning which read "Monkey Graveyard". My immediate thought... "Was this Monkey Graveyard" a similar concept to what the Americans have for their pets... a Pet Cemetery? Until I read this "A group of monkeys huddle in fear at a corner of the container, clinging to each other, trembling at the sight of humans."

It is so very sad to read such articles which clearly shows the evil side of man or the "tidak apa" (couldn't care less attitude). It was reported in the Malay Mail that for many nights, the residents of Mont Kiara have been disturbed by screams coming from the forested area near their condominium and only with checking by the curious residents that the gory truth was discovered.

They found a metal trap with 18 monkeys trapped inside. Apparently some were already dead in this trap, due to starvation and dehydration. I would think that even with the kind residents and security guards trying to feed these trapped monkeys with food and water, if they are not let out soon, more will eventually end up dead.

It was also reported in the MM that this metal container bore the name of the Wildlife Department's name and telephone number. This could be their attempt to remove the monkeys from the posh residential area as they were proving to be a nuisance. However, there are better ways of handling the problem and if the intention was to trap the monkeys for relocation, then more efforts to follow-up on the exercise.

When the various departments were finally contacted and queried, that is when the Witch Hunt started. MM called it the "Blame Game".

‘We admit that we had requested for the trap as we had monkey problems in our compound, but we are not responsible for the monkeys that died in the trap. It is the department’s responsibility to take the monkeys away’ — Brian Withers, Mont Kiara Pines Management Corporation council chairman

‘The officers’ cell phone numbers were given to the management but we did not receive any calls from them. Our enforcement officers took out 21 monkeys from the trap. Those alive were sent to the Gombak forest reserve while the dead ones were sent for post-mortem — Siti Hawa Yatim, Federal Territory Wildlife and National Parks Department. Basically, The Federal Territory Wildlife and National Parks Department denied that it was their fault.

'IF you requested for a monkey trap to be placed in your housing area as a solution to end the nuisance monkeys cause in your area, then it is also your responsibility to inform the Wildlife Department as soon as a monkey is trapped.' Vice-president of Bukit Bandaraya residents’ association, K. Kanagaandram, made the statement to refute accusations by Mont Kiara Pines Management Corporation council chairman Brian Withers on Monday. He further went to thank the Wildlife Department for its excellent service in trapping more than 100 monkeys in the area the past year.

The Malay Mail reporter and representatives from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had been denied entry into the compound where the trap was located until after the meeting. SPCA representatives took an injured monkey, which they found some 20m from the trap, which they deduced was suffering from heatstroke as well as head and tail injuries, to the Veterinary Services Department for treatment.

My date with Tarap Man

I was already at Central Market at 8pm last night waiting for Tarap Man. I've asked several friends if they would like to come with me. Some were busy, some had prior engagements and some were just simply not interested. So, I had no choice but to go meet Tarap Man on my own.

When I reached the 2nd floor of The Annexe Central Market, I realized that I was not the only one who had an "appointment" with Tarap Man. I overheard someone say that there were about 80 of us here tonight. I noticed several indies (independent) musicians there. There were also quite a number of artsy-fartsy looking people here too who spoke with a slang that truly classified themselves as pseudo mat sallehs. Then there were also some who were dressed just like me.... in jeans and a T.

It is now 9:40pm and so far, all I had were just glimpses of Tarap Man. Have not gotten to know him at all. I have heard much about him especially the part about him having killed his own mother, digging her eyeballs out and storing them in a Milo tin. Apparently he also dug out the eyeballs of 10 other people after that... 5 men, 3 women and 2 Mak Nyahs (cross dressers/transvestites). He was named Tarap Man as tarap is his favorite fruit. He was caught by the police whilst enjoying this fruit. However, they were not able to find his mother's eyeballs, which the police suspected were swallowed together with the Tarap fruit.

Finally, Tarap Man came out at 10:10am. He didn't not exactly walked in. He kinda limped in. The next minute, he was atop the table, speaking rather loudly. This guy is absolutely batty. Could not make head or tail of his words. He was in a world of his own... looking at the world through some distorted lens. He is more nutty then a whole bag of pistachios.

This was my 2 hours of experience with Tarap Man, a play written by Ann Lee and a Kuali Works & Dramalab presentation. The storyline is simple, the acting was not exactly brilliant. However I was rather impressed the different usages of different angles of the stage, the various rooms at the Annexe as settings for the play. It was rather an new thing for me to watch the play on the stage floor, at the alcove which was above the stage, the room next to the stage with an camera positioned inside so that the audience can opt to watch it off a white screen and what was even more awesome was the audience were actually forced to vacate the room to the next hall during intermission, with the next Act played in the room where the audience were relaxing during intermission. Wow.. I like.. I like.

Overall, I must say that it was a very good effort. Wish my friends were there as such experiences makes watching local productions so worthwhile watching. And much thanks to my dear dear friend MH for the comp ticket...hugz :)

Thank you for including me as one of your special friend :)

Dear, dear Superheroes... I am so touched that you named me as one of your special friends. It just goes to show that time alone does not make special friends as we've only "known" each other only within a small space of time.. it is that connection..(getting a bit soppy hor.. for a lovely Saturday morning :). If you have not selected me first, I would certainly have selected my two Superheroes as my very special friends.

There are so many whom I would like to list as my special friends but I am sure that those who are not listed here are never too far from my mind or my heart.

When the HeadHunter comes a calling?

It would seem that many of my friends are also checking out Greener Pastures Sdn Bhd of late. Maybe the spate of resignations is contagious?? And several of my ex-colleagues who have left the company have joined organizations to assist people like us who are checking out Greener Pastures Sdn Bhd. These ex-colleagues have become HH - Head Hunters.

There was an article recently in the media which talked about the tips as to what to do when a HH comes a calling. This article was contributed by Seow Kiat Heng, a headhunter with Langshaw International Pte Ltd.

SELECT

Ask to meet the headhunter in person. You want to make sure that his image is consistent with the type of person you want to associate with.

If your headhunter looks polished and professional, this association can work to your advantage. On the other hand, if your headhunter has an unprofessional image, such as not being appropriately attired, this does not reflect well on your judgment.

You want to work with a mature headhunter who has already climbed the corporate ladder. Apart from being in a position to advise his clients on whom to hire, he can also advise you on your next career move.

Select a headhunter who is hands-on as he will work with you at each step of the process.

He should spend time learning about your job history, relevant experience and career goals. He can help you present your resumé in the most accurate and effective manner.

He will follow up on submissions and keep you updated on the status. He can help you prepare for the interview and do a debrief with you afterwards, as well as assist you in negotiating your offer and other issues.

EXPLORE

It is very natural to feel flattered when the headhunter calls. You feel that you are wanted and your skills, talents and experience are being sought after. There is also the prospect of getting a substantial increase in salary, meeting new people and taking on new challenges.

The headhunter wants to match your skills, talents and experience with the job profile his client has given him. He is paid by the client to find the best match. You can improve your career options by exploring various job opportunities with him.

Even if the current job offer is not a good match to your skills, talents and experience, you are on his radar. Should he get another assignment that matches your profile, he will contact you again because he gets paid when he successfully places you in a job.

EVALUATE

After exploring the job offer with the headhunter, the next step you should take is to evaluate the push and pull factors.

Typically, the pull factors for you to join a new company are the motivators which the prospective employer can offer you. These can range from a more challenging job with more responsibilities, to increased prospects for advancement in your career.

The push factors for you to leave your current employer may be salary, status and work conditions which do not meet your expectations.

Before you come to a decision, you may want to consider and evaluate the following factors:

# company culture;
# relationship with supervisors and subordinates ;
# work conditions;
# salary and allowances;
# opportunities for personal growth;
# impact on personal life;
# job responsibilities; and
# likely career advancement path.

Which is the real mcCoy?

I have 2 plates of Fish & Chips here and one of them was actually cooked by me. The other was actually an ordered meal from Kedai Makanan Yut Kee along Jalan Dang Wangi in Kuala Lumpur.

Yut Kee is a "lou chui pai" - old brand name. They have been in Kuala Lumpur for a very long time and I think some food bloggers would have done reviews on them. They are most famous for their breakfast of toasts and soft boiled eggs... way before the Uncle Lim Kopitiams and the rest of them came about. They are also well known for their yummy swiss rolls and butter marble cake.

Anyways, I was at Nuffnang's the other day to collect my "winnings"..oh thank you again Nuffnang and TGIF (kiss kiss) when I decided to just drop in to catch a quick lunch. I had the good old Fish&Chips (one of my fav) and a glass of chinese tea. It was quite tasty.. simple and homecooked feel. Somehow, that whetted my appetite for more. So, when i went home that evening, rummage the fridge and found some Pacific West Fish (drool). Cooked up a batch of these fishies and had myself a 2nd plate of Fish & Chips.

Now, for you to decide which is the real McCoy...and which is the one that came from my kitchen :)

Twelve Days of Christmas... buahaha

Geez..christmas is here soon. Most of the shopping malls have already started playing the Christmas Jingles. The Twelve Days of Christmas used to be one of the jingles that fascinated me the most as I can never ever remember what my True love will bring me after the 5 Golden Rings. Even until today, I still struggle to remember all those gifts my True love brings...but that was before an ex-Uni mate sent me this yesterday. Now, I will surely be able to remember them hahaha....

12 Days of Christmas

December 14, 1992

My dearest darling John:
Who ever in the whole world would dream of getting a real Partridge in
a Pear Tree? How can I ever express my pleasure.
Thank you a hundred times for thinking of me this way.

My love always,
Agnes

December 15, 1992

Dearest John:
Today the postman brought your very sweet gift. Just imagine two turtle
doves. I'm just delighted at your very thoughtful gift.
They are just adorable.

All my love,
Agnes

December 16, 1992

Dear John:
Oh! Aren't you the extravagant one. Now I must protest. I don't deserve
such generosity, three French hens. They are just darling but I must
insist, you've been too kind.

All my love,
Agnes

December 17, 1992

Dear John:
Today the postman delivered four calling birds. Now really, they are
beautiful, but don't you think enough is enough. You are being too
romantic.

Affectionately,
Agnes

December 18, 1992

Dearest John:
What a surprise. Today the postman delivered five golden rings, one for
every finger. You're just impossible, but I love it.
Frankly, all those birds squawking were beginning to get on my nerves.

All my love,
Agnes

December 19, 1992

Dear John:
When I opened the door today there were actually six geese laying on my
front steps. So you're back to the birds again huh?
These geese are huge. Where will I ever keep them? The neighbors are
complaining and I can't sleep through the racket.
Please stop.

Cordially,
Agnes

December 20, 1992

John:
What's with you and those freaking birds?? Seven swans a swimming. What
kind of damn joke is this? There's bird poop all over the house and
they never stop the racket. I can't sleep at night and I'm a nervous wreck.
It's not funny. So stop those freaking birds.

Sincerely,
Agnes

December 21, 1992

O.K. Buster:
I think I prefer the birds. What the hell am I going to do with 8 maids
amilking? It's not enough with all those birds and 8 maids a milking,
but they had to bring their damn cows.
There is manure all over the lawn and I can't move in my own house.
Just lay off me, smartass.

Agnes

December 22, 1992

Hey Shithead:
What are you? Some kind of sadist? Now there's nine pipers playing. And
Christ do they play. They've never stopped chasing those maids since
they got here yesterday morning. The cows are getting upset and they're
stepping all over those screeching birds.
What am I going to do? The neighbors have started a petition to evict
me.

You'll get yours !
Agnes

December 23, 1992

You rotten prick:
Now there's ten ladies dancing. I don't know why I call those sluts
ladies. They've been balling those pipers all night long.
Now the cows can't sleep and they've got diarrhea. My living room is a
river of shit. The Commissioner of Buildings has subpoenaed me to give
cause why the building shouldn't be condemned.
I'm calling the police on you !

Agnes

December 24, 1992

Listen Fuckhead:
What's with those eleven lords a leaping on those maids and ladies?
Some of those broads will never walk again. Those pipers ran through the maids
and have been committing sodomy with the cows. All twenty-three of the
birds are dead. They've been trampled to death in the orgy. I hope you're
satisfied, you rotten vicious swine.

Your sworn enemy,
Agnes

December 25, 1992

Dear Sir:
This is to acknowledge your latest gift of twelve fiddlers fiddling
which you have seen fit to inflict on our client, Miss Agnes McHolstein.
The destruction, of course, was total. All correspondence should come
to our attention. If you should attempt to reach Miss McHolstein at Happy
Dale Sanitarium, the attendants have been instructed to shoot you on sight.
With this letter please find attached a warrant for your arrest.

Kechara Saraswati Arts - Official Opening

Kechara Saraswati Arts is on the 1st Floor, 19A, Jalan ss2/75 PJ

The Sunday just past was really a wonderful and auspicious day. It was the official opening day of Kechara Saraswati Arts (KSA). KSA was my gateway into the Buddhist spiritual world and there I met wonderful people like Wan, Joy, James, Justin, Maggie, Mitra, KB and Rajendra. These were the people who welcomed me into their folds without hesitation or so much as a "hang on... let me think about accepting you into our group".

I started with KSA, painting the golden bodies of the Buddhas and it was also there where I had the merits to first meet my beloved most precious Guru, H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. The first time we met, he loaded me with so many gifts that I was quite overwhelmed. I have never received so many gifts in one moment of time, not even during any of my many passed birthdays.

The female Buddha - Saraswati

Lord Tsongkapa

Over the 1 year, there were times when I would drop in to KSA just to visit but of late, as there were just too many things happening in my "worldly" world, my visits to KSA has dwindled to almost only one visit a month. But KSA is always in my heart and on my mind. KSA is really my bridge to my spiritual self.

James Long - President of KSA

Joy Kam - Vice President of KSA

Joy and James with Wan, the Advisor and Liaison of Outlets & Arts

Paul Yap - Director of Kechara Discovery (official squatter at KSA.. haha..just joking)

Volunteers busy preparing for the occassion

Students, Volunteers, Friends of Kechara

KSA has grown from a one room and one corridor squatting group to a one entire shop lot floor group. I am so very happy and I rejoice that KSA has moved on so well. Sunday, 2nd December 2007 was selected as an auspicious day for the official opening of KSA. I just had to be there to celebrate this happy occasion.

Friends from Bali, Singapore and Nepal... I think!

There were many who were there probably at the break of dawn to set up everything. I had house chores to do and (blush) I also went to wash and blow my hair... for this occasion and also for the wedding dinner that I was invited to attend the same night.
I arrived at 1:30pm and the entire place was already crowded. I was informed that Guru would be arriving at 3:30pm to bless the new place. Immediately I knew that the wedding dinner will have to be shelved. I will have to remember to pass the couple my angpow the next opportunity I get to see them. Felt sorry for not being able to inform them earlier, but receiving dharma from my Guru is more important than anything in this miserable life of mine.

Guru, with all those who have toiled hard and long to make this opening day a success

Guru remembering the long journey KSA has taken to get where it is today.....

Guru arrived at about 3:30pm. He conducted prayers to bless the new place and he also blessed all of us who were present. He gave a dharma talk and he also recounted the journey of KSA from the days of conception until today. But the journey has not ended yet. There is still much to do. The main objective of KSA is to bring people into Dharma through their love and interests in the Arts. The many activities that Guru spoke of included painting of Buddha statues, of thangkas, bead work, mantra rolling, sewing of Tibetan robes for the Buddha statues. So many great things to look forward to. I have just committed myself to taking up "jaga" duties at KSA every Wednesday evening after work. If anyone would like to drop by to have a look at this brand new place, do come. I will be more than happy to take you through a short guided tour of the place. And you don't have to be a Buddhist to step in. It is open to all as it is meant to be an Art Gallery of sorts. Do come :)
