A Special Colander

It has been a long time since I found anything interesting in terms of utensils in the kitchen. The last and only one I shared was the apple corer from Ikea.

This kitchen item first caught my eye when I was watching a VCD demo at a supermarket, cannot really remember where but it was likely at Jusco in Mid Valley (my fav shopping place). It resembled a colander or some kind of sieve which you would normally wash your vegetables and fruits in but this one is one to wash rice in. The VCD was about sushi making and the chef as washing the uncooked rice in one of this. I saw that it will be extremely useful to me as I always have this problem when I wash rice. Much of it will end up getting poured out with the water and with the price of rice going sky high these days, every grain saved is a grain eaten.. (sounds like I am really rice counting).

I remember going upstairs to the departmental store section to look for it but could not find it. In fact, could not find it at any of the other supermarkets or departmental stores. Never really gave up looking though. Then out of the blue, 2 evenings ago as I was waiting for a friend a SS2 for dinner, I spotted the 100Yen shop. My initial intention was to go in to look for some cutie bento boxes. And that was when I saw it..... wah... it was like finding a treasure. I immediately took hold of one. And at this 100Yen shop, it was only sold at RM4.70... wonderful.

I know that with this colander thingy (actually I don't even know if there is a correct name for it as everything on the packet is written in Japanese), I will have an easier time washing rice without too much wastage now. See how easy it is.....

We have one that is light green in color. Mom use it for veggie washing. Never for rice washing. Haha
