DanSing Thru Broadway

I must be really getting old as this has completely slipped my mind.

I was chatting with my friend Jeremy about the upcoming musical which he will be in and knowing that my regular musical kaki and close friend will not be able to make it for the show, I was wondering if anyone out there would like to go watch this and I could just like....tag along.. you know.. haha.. it would be great to have someone to talk to during intermission :)

The synopsis is taken from Ticket2U.biz

A geeky and somewhat timid Karim meets Grey for an interview. Grey, a theatre producer who is looking for a personal assistant, is appalled with Karim’s lacklustre demeanour: no wonder the boy has not found work, just look at him! He tells Karim the story of “Hello Dolly” where Cornelius and Barnaby present themselves as millionaires to attract their dream girls; thus, our journey through Broadway begins. Featuring hit songs from musicals “Hello Dolly”, Miss Saigon, Annie, A Chorus Line and many, many more; “DanSing Thru Broadway” promises to be entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Starring Aidil (AF), Peter Ong, Radhi Khalid, Doreen Tang, Tria, Ho Soon Yoon, Nicole-Anne Thomas, Aris Kadir, Brian McIntyre and Sabrina Hassan. Also featuring the Sayang Dancers and introducing the Junior Sayang Dancers. Produced by Farah Sulaiman with musical direction by Helen Yap, DanSing Thru Broadway starts at Panggung Bandaraya from June 25 2008. Come one, come all!

The Ticket and Show details are snatched from DanSing's blog :-

A Wedding Shoot to be remembered

I have been rather busy at work the last few days and as such, I have totally forgotten to share this lot of photos which a friend sent. It is quite sad to be reminded of that awful day but these pictures were taken by the wedding photographer and it will probably be something that he and the bride and groom will tell their children and grand children in days to come. Luckily no one was injured at the place where this happened.

I went on to google the photographer Wang Qiang and found this article "Quake left wedding party in layer of dust".

At the famous 100-year-old Church of the Annunciation in Pengzhou, China.

Very early morning May 12, photographer Wang went about preparing to shoot
wedding pictures for a young couple, this was the test shot before the shoot...

Pengzhou is located in the Sichuan province. It was morning May 12, 2008.
And then it happened.... the earth quake! 7.8 on the Richter scale.
Bricks fall from the building during the earthquake, which turned Wang from a
wedding photographer into a journalist.

'Thank God we were only shooting from outside the church!' remarked a helper.

The stunned couple huddles together at the church ground during initial tremors.

'I shouted to people, 'Run! Run!'' said photographer Wang Qiang.
'The ground shook and we couldn't see anything in the dust.'

As the dust began to clear, the true extent of damage was only beginning to appear...

A cracked facade was all that remained of the 100-year-old Church of the
Annunciation after the quake. Most of the church 'collapsed in 10 seconds,' said Wang,
who lives in Chengdu, capital of hard-hit Sichuan province.

Soon after the quake, the people at the seminary set out for a nearby village,
but residents warned them the route was blocked. 'We could still hear landslides,'
Wang wrote in an online account of the disaster. So they stayed overnight in a
tent and made it to the village the next day, thanks to help from a truck driver.

A scarf from a wedding dress lies forgotten in front of the seminary.
Wang said he thought the catastrophe would strengthen the bonds of
the couples who were there that day: 'Having gone through a life-and-death test,
they surely will clasp hands and grow old together.'

No one was harmed at the above location.

They'll sure have a Wild story to tell there Children!

How to save petrol, thus saving money

Like every good citizen of Malaysia, I am still reeling from the shock of such a drastic increase in the price of petrol as of midnight yesterday. Every other blogger has a post up on this issue and why should I be different. At the same time, I was also frantically googling for suggestions on how to save petrol, thus saving a little of my hard earned money.

There were several sites which I visited that gave pretty good suggestions like keeping your tyres inflated, not speeding and braking too often as this will cause more petrol be to consumed, not leaving the engine running (and the air conditioning too) whilst waiting. But there was one particular website which managed to put a smile on my face despite such a gloomy scenario.

This post was published by a person call Mike at blogiseverything. Mike suggested 6 ways to save petrol (which I think was rather tongue-in-cheek as some of these suggestions may save some fuel - which he even gave the percentage possibility of fuel saved - but may lead you to more expenditure, in the event you have an accident or you need to fix your car later.

These were his suggestions in brief and to have a more detailed description of his idea, do visit his website.

1) Properly Inflated Tyres (Average savings: 3%. That reminds me, better get my tyres checked.. i think they are kinda of deflated and balding too)

2) Tailgating NASCAR style (Average savings: 16%. This one, you had better work out the cost of fixing your front bumper, radiator and anything else that is busted, plus the fella's car in front too)

3) The Brick Trick (Average savings: 21%. Now this one, I really have to think about it)

4) Forward Momentum (Average savings: 33% to 42%, depending on wind direction. Haha.. this makes me think of sailing)

5) Gravity's Rainbow (Average savings: 54% plus. Hard for me as I live on flat ground. Not going anywhere too far too soon if I took up his suggestion)

6) Cut their throats (Average savings: Nil but supposed to make you feel better. But you have to replace US Govt with Malaysian Govt)

TLC - Truly Loving Company

After spending some time at Log n Roll and having my favorites safely packed inside a plastic bag, I went upstairs to get some gloves from ACE when I saw a very colorful stack of plastic bottles and containers on a little stall set up just in front of ACE. I walked by to kay poh chi (check it out) and this very nice lady in the standard magenta t-shirt politely asked if I had some time to spare.

She asked me if I have heard of TLC before and I replied "Tender Loving Care"? She smile and replied "Yes, a lot of people have called us that but in actuality, we are the Truly Loving Company". And as she was saying that, my eyes were surveying the things on the table. They were mostly kitchen and bathroom cleaners, bath and body products and floor detergents. So, what's with this Truly Loving Company thingy?

She patiently explained to me what TLC was about. They have a website where their mission and value statements are visibly spelt out. In a nutshell, their business model centers around this..

"The Truly Loving Company became the first socially responsible business in Malaysia to use a corporate profit model to develop, manufacture and market the TLC brand of high quality household and personal care products to the public but with 100% of TLC’s dividends being distributed to worthy Malaysian charities in order to provide them with a regular, sustainable, long term source of income and funds."

At the moment, their charity partners (they are actually the beneficiaries of the revenues of this company but to call them charity partners, I do believe that shows TLC's sensitivity towards these organizatons) includes the following:-

Rumah Aman
http://www.rumahaman.com/

HOSPIS MALAYSIA
http://www.hospismalaysia.org/

SHELTER home for children
http://www.shelterhome.org

HANDICAPPED AND MENTALLY DISABLED CHILDREN ASSOCIATION JOHOR BAHRU http://www.handicapjb.org.my

NASAM
http://www.nasam.org/
TLC's first payout to its Charity Partners

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC3Z5KRV068

After all that, she asked, ever so politely if I would like to have a look at their floor cleaners and offered me to take a whiff of their latest scent. From that point already, I was sold. I was willing to give them all the money I had in my wallet - haha.. not much lah as I am definitely not a cash rich person. I live from pay cheque to pay cheque every month :(.

Eventually, after looking, touching, smelling most of their products, I ended up buying this lot. I think the total cost for them is about RM64 or thereabouts. But I really felt that if an organization is so willing to do it's share for those who are in need, then why shouldn't we. It is not as it we do not use these products at home. You do need floor cleaners, kitchen cleaners, shower cream, hand lotion. Why not change to this brand of products, still get what you want and at the same time do just that little bit for those who needs it most.

Click here for the Truly Loving Company's official website. Their brand of products are available in supermarkets, hypermarkets and some of the pharmacies.

The best part of it all was that when I did get home to check on their website, only did I realize that the nice lady who spoke to me is their Chief Executive Officer, Ms Julia Chong. Wah.... reading her qualifications and previous work credentials already floored me liow. Now, I asked myself, how many CEOs have I met in my life, who is so humble, so polite and would stand almost the entire day (I was there until about 3pm lepaking and she was still around) trying to create public awareness on the cause of her organization in helping those in need. I really salute this lady and if I had this one wish (corporate wish lah haha), I would love to work for a boss like her. I hope you are reading this post Ms Julia Chong - HINT HINT!!!

Restoran Hao Wei Dao - revisited

I didn't think that I will be going back to eat at Restoran Hao Wei Dao so soon after my last post but after reading the comment from Doremon, I simply had to return to sample some of the goodies which he suggested.

Doremon said... i tried the food there. It is good.U should try the chicken chop it is delicious but filling (for the big stomach people). The pasta is better than the norm and has a wide variaty (the green fettu is very special cooked from green olive oil a little oily). The drink are good and has a even wider variaty and is very nice(ice lemon tea- for sweet lovers, plumjuice- for sour lovers, coffee- for busy workers and so on....).The soup is great and the mushroom soup is a must try!!! The one that I liked best was the qizi soup is the best!!(a little costly but very tasty)

We ordered their Spaghetti Black Pepper, Spaghetti Carbonara and a White Pepper Chicken Soup with Rice as the mains, Red Bean Rice Balls for dessert and Hot Chinese Teas to wash it all down.

True to Doremon's recommendation, the Pastas were fantastic. Everything was shared so that we all had a taste of every dish and I must say that it was really a task for me to choose what I liked best. The Spaghetti Black Pepper was done just right, not too spicy and with a touch of sweetness to the sauce. The Carbonara sauce was done almost to perfection, creamy and rich.

Spaghetti Carbonara (RM13.90)

Spaghetti Black Pepper (RM12.90)

Now, when it came to the White Pepper Chicken Soup, now that was just the right type of soup on a cold day. This had a familiar taste to the Pork Belly Pepper Soup, which is one of my favorite type of soup. It was so good that we order additional rice to share the soup, felt so much like those soups mum used to make.

White Pepper Chicken Soup with Rice (RM11.90)

Spoke to one of the owners, Joey (I hope I spelt your name right. Alex, her brother was at their other outlet yesterday) and she told us that most of their dishes were centered around home cooked meals, no msg, original flavors and the goodness from the meat, the herbs and spices that they use. Yes, one could really tell that their soups are the real McCoy. We had their QiZi (Wolfberries) soup the last time and Joey's team of cooks were definitely not stingy with their portions of this QiZi used in the soup.

Red Bean Rice Ball (stuffed with Black Sesame Paste) RM4.50

We were wondering when Angel Wong Chui Ling is going to pop by this outlet. Apparently, Angel and some of her friends have been to the Taman Desa outlet some years back, but that was before she started hosting the "One Day Five Meals 一日五餐" Astro Wah Lai Toi series. I am really an fan of Angel and her series. Hope she visits on the day I happen to be eating there. Would love to meet Angel in person ;)

Log n Roll

The weekend just past was a terribly good weekend for me. What made it good for me was that I was able to do my little bit towards charity and at the same time, got to take back lots of great stuff. Firstly, I "met up" with a long lost colleague on Facebook and he asked if I was free to drop by at Ikano over the weekend. He told me that he has a little kiosk in Ikano and he was going to donate all the revenue for the day towards 'bai xiao' (SRJK (c) Damansara). He wrote "I am sure you have heard about the story of bai xiao, right."...Eeerrr...not really.. but if there is food somewhere related to the cause, rest assured, I will be there :)

I was over Ikano before 10am (kiasu mah.. scared later no car park space). I casually walked by the kiosk and I noticed that people were only starting to arrange their stuff. As I didn't see my friend around and didn't want to look like a "ngor kwai" (hungry ghost) lurking in front of people's kiosk just waiting for them to start business, I went into Uncle Lim's to have my favorite breakfast of Nasi Lemak and a cup of Milo.

When my breakfast was safely packed inside my tummy, I walked out and there I saw him, my friend and ex-colleague. Shooked hands (no huggies, we are Malaysians after all...buahahaha) and caught up a little. Asked him what the charity drive was all about and he shoved this write-up in chinese up my face. Ahem.. banana lah.. cannot read. So, he explained a little about little temple school. Came home later to googled it to find out more. There was an article in the local daily a week ago. Click here to read further.

Meanwhile, back to my ulterior motive of being there... to buy his yummy Chee Cheong Fun (ok, ok...I admit lah, the charity thingy is the little motivation that got me up early on a Sunday morning, but the Chee Cheong Fun is the BIG motivation....happy??)

I knew that he was running a kiosk in Mid Valley selling Chee Cheong Fun coz Babe bought me some a while back. But I found out that he has relocated that kiosk over to Ikano as the rental at Mid Valley was very high. I like it very much, as it is convenient to keep in the fridge and can be stored for about 3 days ( immediately I felt assured that there is very little if not no preservatives as things without preservatives don't last that long, even if refridgerated).

The variety ranged from plain (vegetarian) to those with mushrooms, pandan (strange??), dried shrimps (cannot remember if there were others as I immediately stopped listening after he got to the dried shrimps... I love dried shrimps chee cheong fun). They are about RM4 a packet.

Oh yeah, the chillie is simply to die for.. it is absolutely delicious. Babe gave me some with the chee cheong fun and I made it last for weeks, taking only a little each time :). The small containers are priced at RM3 and the larger ones are RM5 (please don't quote me though.. this is just from pure recall).

Then there are the fish balls, foo chuks and good stuff (all halal...haha.. poor fella was so insistent that they only sell halal stuff ..coz me and my big mouth asked aloud if I could have some porky balls swimming in the soup).

One has the option of eating there or packing back. As that plate of Nasi Lemak was still hogging all that space inside my stomach, I had to pack back all the stuff that I have selected.

Yummy choice of gravy for those eating-in or rather eating at whatever seat they can find around Ikano shopping centre.

This is their price list. I would say that it is very reasonable. I bought back a packet of chee cheong fun (RM4), 10 pcs of Yong Tow Foo (RM3.90), 1 small tub of Prawn Chilli (RM3) and 1 tub of sweet sauce (RM1)... keeping it for tonite.

Ha Ha.. felt so good with myself. Got to meet up with a good friend, to do a little for the needy plus having my favorite food, chee chong fun in the plastic bag.
