Life is a Rollercoaster...

Hey.. who said (sang) that???

But it is so true though. One day, it could be dark and stormy.. heehee.. no lah.. not that drama lah.. just had 2 little nicks to my car (previous post) one day..and the next.. it is bright and sunny and you get 3 free meals...oolala.

Yesterday was that just that kind of day. In the morning, JW asked me for breakfast near our office. Didn't take any photos of the breakfast as I didn't know that she was going to treat me. HeeHee.. should have had more than my nasi lemak packet and 2 eggs and thanks JW for breakfast.

When lunch time came, JW told me that she had to go to Jalan Tun Sambantan 2 to pick up some accounting books for her sister. On the way, picked up babe_kl. After picking up the books, since we were already in the area famous for indian cuisine of banana leaf rice (Brickfields area ma), we wanted to try the Restaurant Central but there was no car park space. So, I suggested that we ate at a yummy and very reasonable eating place called Restaurant Sin Kee (this is a oh-so-NOT-HALAL place though). The shop is very easy to find. Just drive along Brickfields with KL Central on your right and you won't be able to miss the shop which is on your left. Found a great post on this restaurant from Notes from Venus.

We ordered 3 super yummy dishes to eat with rice. Had chinese tea to go with our meal. When the bill came, babe_kl insisted on paying as this was JW's last day with us at our company. Thanks babe_kl for a wonderful lunch. Btw, the bill came to RM36. I thought that was quite reasonable. If you go with a bigger crowd, then a meal there sometimes comes up to less than RM10 per person.

In the evening, I had a date with 2 great guys. I say this not just because they were buying dinner ;) .. some more at Victoria Station (dying to go there since reading two superheroes' post) but basically they are good friends. One is an close friend from my Uni days and the other is an friend whom I used to work with and who is now my Uni friend's staff. We went to the Medan Damansara outlet. The staff there were warm and friendly and the ambiance was wonderful and when a gal is with her best friends... what more does she want wor ??

Hey.. What's your hurry??

Yesterday was not that a great a day for me... on the road that is. I think I've had this conversation before with a friend on the internet and we ended up pretty upset with each other. I was complaining about how irresponsible motor bikers were on the road, weaving in and out. He owns a car and also rides a bike and he was arguing that car drivers were worse. But what happened yesterday really proved me right :(

Morning jams are a norm anywhere in Kuala Lumpur and the bikers normally in their hurry to get to their destinations will weave in and out plus "eat" into the opposite side of the road. Yesterday morning, during the crawl to work, my car was stationery. Suddenly I heard a "bang" and felt my car jerk. Looked at the rear view mirror and saw this bike stuck between the right side of my car (boot area) and the car on my right. The bike's 2 side mirrors were caught and the biker's poor passenger behind him probably got jerked off his seat or maybe he jumped off seeing what a tight squeeze they were heading for. The cars were not moving, so we were not able to do anything to get him out of his tight predicament. Both the biker and his passenger had to pull the bike back to dislodge it and moved on their way, weaving in and out again once they passed my car. When I got to the office, checked my car, there was a very minor dent near the side :(

In the evening, the jam back is even worse and going back after 8pm or 9pm does not really make a difference in the inner city. I was driving along Jalan Tun Ismail. The traffic lights in front of me was green but as it was a yellow box in front of me, I waited for the car after the lights to move on before I proceeded. There was a policeman at the side of the road and I didn't want to be summoned for "standing" in the yellow box. As the car in front of me moved, I checked the traffic lights. Still green on my side. So, I moved and in a split second.. WHAM!!

Slammed on my brakes on reflex. A biker beating the red light hit me on my right front skirting. I saw his female "tudung" passenger slipping off the bike but managed to steady herself by gripping on his shirt. We were in the middle of traffic and I really didn't bother to stop to check the car as I know for sure the biker will not admit his fault or pay damages. True enough, the biker and his passenger rode off and I knew the policeman saw the incident but he didn't move a muscle. Nothing much he could do either.

When I got home, I checked my car...sob...money out of the pocket soon to repaint the skirting...

Restauran Ah Koong Eating House

I went out with some colleagues today for lunch. It was a farewell lunch for JW... her last day with the company will be tomorrow. Actually, I was just a filler for one of the no-shows... a girl who was on MC today.


We went to Restauran Ah Koong Eating House at Jalan Changkat Thambi Dollah, Kuala Lumpur. There are bound to be many posts on this famous eating stall. I think the last time I was there must be at least several years back. Don't normally go there as I am rather lazy to drive out, with only 1 hour lunch time... it can be rather stressful.. trying to come back to the office on time.



There were 4 of us. We ordered 2 curry and 2 soup plus extra fried fish cakes and foo chok.









It was really very yummy. One of the workers there asked me why I was taking their photos (in chinese). I told them that I was going to put them on the internet. She got rather excited about it and made an attempt to explain to her Indonesian co-workers but she was at a loss find the right word for "blogging" and "internet".

So, she turned to me to asked me how to say that in Bahasa Malaysia.... I was stumped for a minute.. Me.. the dimly lite bulb replied "naik internet"...literally translated from chinese.."go up the internet"...buahaha...

With all that plus 3 coconuts and a coca cola... the bill came up to RM50. Not too cheap but definitely a treat :)

Truly Inspiring

This must be one of the truly inspiring video clip I have seen.

What you are about to see was seen at a Chinese modern dance competition broadcasted on one of China's TV stations. One couple won one of the top prizes. The lady has one arm and the guy has one leg. They performed gracefully and beautifully.

The lady in her 30s was a dancer and was trained as one since she was a little girl. Later she got into some kind of accident and lost her entire right arm. She was depressed for a few years. It seemed that someone asked her to coach a Children's dancing group. From that point on, she realized she could not forget dancing. She still loved to dance. She wanted to dance again. So she started to do some of her old routines. But by her losing an arm, she also lost her balance. It took a while before she could even making simple turns and spins without falling. Eventually she got it.

Then she heard some guy in his 20s had lost a leg in an accident. This guy also fell into the usual denial, depression and anger type of emotional roller coaster. She looked him up (seemingly he was from a different Province) and persuaded him to dance with her. He had never danced. And to dance with one leg? Are you joking with me? No way. But she didn't give up. He reluctantly agreed. ' I have nothing else to do anyway.' She started to teach him dancing 101. The two broke up a few times because the guy had no concept of using muscle, control his body, and a few other basic things about dancing. When she became frustrated and lost patience with him, he would walk out. Eventually they came back together and started training. They hired a choreographer to design routines for them. She would fly high (held by him) with both arms (a sleeve for an arm) flying in the air. He could bend horizontally supported by one leg and she leaning on him, etc. They danced beautifully and they legitimately beat others in the competition.

I would like to share with you this most magnificent and touching performance I have ever seen! It is a living proof that strong spirit can conquer any physical limitations! View the performance (I was moved to tears watching them).

Dinner at South Pacific Restaurant, PJ

I went for dinner yesterday evening at the South Pacific Seafood Restaurant in PJ (near MPPJ Building). Started out to be just a quiet dinner with 4 of my regular girlfriends. But since one of our good friend was coming in from Hong Kong for a visit, I decided to call a few more. Anyway, some of them called several others (which nobody really minded) who happened to be passing by KL from US and China and I don't know where else, the group grew to 15 people by the time food was served. Ha Ha.. we had to change the table 2x just to accommodate the 15 of us. I think the people at the neighboring tables were not to pleased with us for the commotion caused and also the fact that each time our table expanded, they were virtually pushed out of the restaurant (sorry).

We ordered most of what was recommended to us except the lobster (which I knew would be a killer at RM100 per kg) and the frogs (coz I saw them sitting there mournfully in the tank outside the restaurant, waiting for their turn to kick the bucket). We ordered crabs (RM40/kg, which I think was a little pricey coz they were just regular crabs), prawns cooked in 2 different styles, calamari (sotong), steamed 7-star grouper, 2 types of vegetables, claypot tou foo, a seafood platter with scallops & sea asparagus and we wrapped up with a plate of mixed fruits.













The dishes were very tasty...but I think 15 to a table was too many to have a good reach for the food (even with the lazy susie) and any clearly audible conversation. That's why after finishing the yummy meal (RM484), we adjourned to a quieter place for drinks after that. Now I have to think again.. how to effectively have a good sit-down dinner when the group is big and no body wants sit at separate tables...mmm

All that Glitters is Gold after all ;)

I have been acting like a sloth lately where blogging was concerned.. posting as well as reading. Blame that on the recent holiday mood.

2 things happened to me in blogland yesterday in consecutive order. The first was my blog was automatically redirected to some other site each time I attempted to open it. Panic! MSN babe_kl to see if she was able to open my blog. Confirmed that she too was redirected to some page hosted by adbaaz or something. I suspected that it was the Advertlets codes causing it. Removed all Advertlets codes and wahlah... the sky is blue and clear again :).

Later in the evening, I received a mail from Nuffnang on their latest program : The Nuffnang Glitterati. Wow.. what is this glittering mail all about??

Wow, it is a Loyalty Program... and a very cool one at that.

Wah... my day has now turned even brighter. Now that I have removed all the Advertlets codes from my blog...I would most likely qualify for the Glitterati Programme (hor?). So... all that Glitterati (glitters) is GOLD after all!!
